What if my physiotherapy treatments are no longer reimbursed?

Is physiotherapy covered by my health insurance?

Whether physiotherapy is covered depends on your age, condition and insurance cover. Some treatments are covered under the basic insurance policy, subject to certain conditions. Other treatments may be covered by your supplementary insurance or may be at your own expense. Check with your health insurer to find out the terms and conditions, the number of treatments covered and any costs you may have to pay yourself.

How long does physiotherapy treatment take?

The estimated duration may vary depending on the type of appointment and treatment. When booking, please ask how much time has been set aside for your appointment. That way, you’ll know in advance what to expect.

Do I need to bring anything specific to my first appointment?

Please bring valid proof of identity and a towel with you. Have you received a referral or any relevant medical information? If so, please bring these with you as well. Make sure you have your insurance details to hand and wear clothing that allows you to move around easily.

What can I expect during the first appointment?

During your first appointment, we will discuss your symptoms, your health and what you would like to be able to do again. The physiotherapist will assess your range of motion and explain their findings. Together, you will discuss a suitable treatment plan, including exercises and advice where necessary.

How many treatments do I need on average?

The number of sessions depends on your symptoms, goals and recovery. During your first appointment, we will discuss a treatment plan. We will review your progress and, if necessary, adjust the plan in consultation with you.

Do I need a GP referral for physiotherapy?

You can usually book an appointment with a physiotherapist directly, without a referral from your GP. However, a referral may be required for certain treatments or conditions to be covered. Please check the terms and conditions with your health insurer.
