Support for long-term symptoms following COVID-19

Support after COVID-19 at FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen

The coronavirus can affect both young and old, and its effects vary greatly among individuals. For many, the recovery process after COVID-19 is lengthy and intensive. At FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen, we offer specialised guidance to anyone who needs help with corona rehabilitation.

Recovery from COVID-19

The recovery process after corona varies from person to person. Some experience reduced taste and smell perception, while others experience physical symptoms such as:

  • Reduced muscle strength
  • Reduced fitness
  • Fatigue complaints
  • Respiratory problems during rest or exercise
  • Reduced confidence in your body

Long-term symptoms following COVID-19 vary greatly from person to person. Please discuss any persistent symptoms with your GP. Together, we will assess whether exercise guidance is appropriate.

Be aware of post-exertional malaise (PEM)
With post-COVID, symptoms may worsen following physical or mental exertion, sometimes only one or two days later. Do not push through such symptoms whilst exercising. Discuss this with your healthcare professional. Your activities and rest should be in line with your personal limits.

Are you still experiencing symptoms after having COVID-19? Please discuss these with your GP. At FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen, we will work with you to assess whether physiotherapy is suitable for your situation. Your capacity and how you respond to activities will determine the approach; recovery cannot be guaranteed.

Tailor-made personal coaching

At FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen, we believe in a personalised approach for every individual recovering from COVID-19. We understand that the impact of the virus can vary and that each patient’s needs and goals are unique. We discuss your symptoms, goals and response to activities, and coordinate your care with other healthcare professionals where necessary.

  1. Individual treatment plan: Following a thorough assessment of your medical history and current state of health, we will draw up a detailed treatment plan together with you. The content of the plan will depend on what you are able to manage. If your symptoms worsen after physical exertion, the focus will be on monitoring your limits and balancing activity with rest.
  2. Regular reviews and adjustments: Throughout your recovery process, we will monitor your progress closely. If necessary, we will adjust the treatment plan to ensure it continues to reflect your constantly changing state of health and goals. We will adapt our approach if your symptoms worsen.
  3. Support with your day-to-day challenges: We understand that recovering from COVID-19 involves more than just physical exercises. Our team provides continuous support and motivation to help you overcome any obstacles and regain your confidence in your body. Whether it is improving your breathing capacity, restoring muscle strength or gradually resuming your normal activities, we are here to guide you.
  4. An understanding of health management: Besides direct physiotherapy care, we also offer health management guidance. We provide you with educational information and advice on how to optimise your health after COVID-19, including the importance of rest, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Reimbursement for physiotherapy following COVID-19

The temporary reimbursement scheme for primary-care paramedical rehabilitation following COVID-19 has ended. New treatment programmes were no longer covered by that scheme from 1 July 2024; the transitional arrangement for existing programmes ran until 1 January 2025 at the latest. The old scheme, which allowed for a maximum of 50 treatment sessions, therefore no longer applies.

Whether your physiotherapy is covered depends on your individual circumstances and your health insurance policy. Please check this with your insurer before you start treatment. Physiotherapy is only covered by basic health insurance in specific circumstances; supplementary insurance may have different terms and conditions.
