Shoulder problems can make getting dressed, lifting things, exercising and sleeping difficult. The pain may start suddenly or develop gradually. Sometimes they also play neck pain a role. At FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen, we assess what is holding you back and what support is most suitable.
Shoulder pain

The most common shoulder complaints
Shoulder pain can have various causes. Below are examples of conditions and factors that may be considered during the examination. A recognisable pattern of symptoms does not in itself constitute a diagnosis.
- RSI complaints
- Osteoarthritis
- Maintaining the same posture for a long time
- Exertion whilst working or playing sport
- Stress and tension
- Repetitive movements over a longer period of time
- Tendon problems around the shoulder (subacromial pain)
- Frozen shoulder
- Bursitis
- Shoulder instability
- Luxation of the shoulder joint
- A tear in a shoulder tendon (rotator cuff)
Try to continue using your shoulder and arm during everyday activities and temporarily adjust the level of strain you place on them. Discuss with your physiotherapist which movements and exercises are suitable for your symptoms. The range of motion is not the same for every shoulder condition.
During your first appointment, we will discuss your symptoms and assess your range of motion. Together, we will draw up a treatment plan. You will receive your personalised exercises to do at home via our own FRISK App.

Making an appointment
Are your shoulder problems persisting or recurring? Please contact FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen to discuss the appropriate course of treatment. If you experience sudden, severe pain following a fall or accident, or if you are barely able to use your arm, it is advisable to seek a medical assessment first.
Do you also have chest pain or a heavy, pressing sensation in your chest that persists even when you are resting, possibly accompanied by sweating or nausea? Call 112. Read more about Shoulder problems on Thuisarts.nl.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR TREATMENT

Physiotherapy or exercise therapy can help if you continue to experience a lot of pain, find it difficult to use your shoulder, or are having problems at work. We will first discuss which treatment is best suited to your symptoms and goals.
We will discuss when the pain occurs and which activities cause you difficulty. We will then assess, amongst other things, your range of motion and functional ability. You will be given an explanation of the findings and advice on the most appropriate next steps.
It is usually a good idea to keep moving your shoulder. Temporarily adjust any activities that cause a lot of pain. Which movements and exercises are suitable depends on your symptoms. Avoid keeping your shoulder completely still for long periods without medical advice.
No. Often, the consultation and physical examination alone provide sufficient information to guide the next steps. Imaging is only useful if it can answer a specific question and has implications for the course of treatment.
That depends on what is limiting you and what you want to be able to do again. For example, you can work on your mobility and strength. We’ll explain how to exercise and how to balance the intensity of your training with your recovery.
FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen offers support with post-operative recovery. Please bring the information and instructions provided by your surgeon. The programme and the level of physical activity permitted will be tailored to your operation and recovery.
Together, we’ll monitor changes in your pain, mobility and daily activities. We’ll discuss your progress at agreed intervals. If there’s no improvement, we’ll assess whether the plan needs to be adjusted or whether medical consultation is required.
You will receive your home exercise programme via our own FRISK App. There you can view your own exercise programme. Your physiotherapist will discuss with you which exercises you will be doing and how to perform them.
As well as your own exercise programme, you can use the FRISK App book, change or cancel appointments. You’ll also find information about our team, our areas of specialism, information on medical conditions, the latest news, our online shop and contact details.
