Medical taping

Medical taping involves applying elastic tape to the skin. At FRISKFYSIO Amstelveen, we will discuss whether this might be a suitable addition to your treatment.

What can you expect from medical taping?

The tape moves with the skin. Some people find it provides support whilst moving, but a noticeable or lasting effect is not guaranteed. The tape does not contain any active medicinal ingredients.

The scientific evidence varies depending on the condition. We will therefore assess together whether this treatment would be of benefit to you.

Medical taping is no substitute for a medical examination, appropriate exercises or medical treatment. Nor does the tape guarantee that you can safely continue to exercise whilst recovering from an injury.

"Thanks to this 'magic' tape, I can continue to play sports despite my ankle injury. Although to a slightly lesser extent, but I can happily keep moving!"

Medical taping: what do we agree on beforehand?

  • We will discuss your symptoms, the purpose of the tape and any possible alternatives.
  • Please let us know in advance if you have had a reaction to plasters or tape in the past, or if your skin is damaged.
  • Discontinue use and seek medical advice if you experience skin irritation, itching, blisters or worsening symptoms.
  • You will be given instructions on how to apply and remove the tape. How long it can be worn depends on the product and your skin’s reaction.
  • We are assessing the impact. If there is no noticeable benefit, it is not a foregone conclusion that we will continue.
