After a sprain, gently try to see if you can stand and walk. Elevating your foot and applying a cold compress for a short time can help relieve symptoms. Gradually build up your walking and, later, your strength and balance exercises, depending on the pain and swelling.
If you are unable to take more than four steps without assistance, if your symptoms are getting worse, or if the pain and swelling have not subsided after four days, please contact your GP. Read more about a sprained ankle on Thuisarts.nl.
