Physiotherapist in training
About Nathan
My name is Nathan Remijnse, I am 26 years old and I come from Zeeland. I grew up there, spending a lot of time on the water: I’ve been sailing since I was eight and took up rowing when I was younger. I moved to Amsterdam to study, where I am currently in my fourth and final year of the Physiotherapy programme at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. At the moment, I am doing my final-year placement at FRISKFYSIO, where I am putting everything I have learnt over the past few years into practice.
Sport and exercise are an important part of my life. For a long time, I rowed at national level, and my absolute highlight came when I was selected to compete at the U23 World Championships. These days, I’ve taken things a bit easier and enjoy cycling and running, both of which I’m very keen on. Drawing on my own sporting background, I have developed a keen interest in human movement and a passion for helping people to move healthily (again), particularly to get them back into sport.
A lot can go wrong whilst exercising, and rehabilitation is often a complex process, with its ups and downs along the way. That is precisely why I find it a rewarding challenge to help people continue to enjoy exercise throughout this journey and get them back to their previous level as quickly as possible. To develop my skills further in this area, I took the minor in Sports Physiotherapy at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences last year. I then undertook a placement in Switzerland, where I gained a great deal of experience in treating sports injuries and a wide range of other movement-related issues. That diversity has broadened my perspective and taught me that every patient has their own story and requires a personalised approach.
My aim as a newly qualified physiotherapist is to help people recover, alleviate their symptoms and enable them to move pain-free again as quickly as possible. In doing so, I want to look not only at the symptom itself, but also at the athlete or patient behind it and at what they hope to achieve. I am therefore very much looking forward to supporting patients at FRISKFYSIO in the coming period and to developing myself further as a physiotherapist who supports their patients throughout the entire process.
